100 Dead In Indonesia, East Timor Due To Flash Floods & Landslides
Around 100 people have died after a flash floods & landslides occurred in Indonesia and East Timor. Caused by torrential rains, the dams overflowed submerging over thousands of homes spread from East Indonesia’s Flores Island to East Timor. Reportedly, the rescue missions were hampered due to roads blocked with debris and power cuts. However, officials suspect more deaths as dozens go missing.

Uttarakhand To Declare 136 People Missing Since Chamoli Disaster Dead
At least 136 people, who are still missing since the February 7 Chamoli disaster, have been "presumed dead" by the Uttarakhand government. Issuing a notification, the government stated that 70 bodies and 29 human organs have been recovered so far. Historic: NDRF Deploys India's First All-Female 100-Member Team In UP
In a historic move, India for the first time has employed a team of 100 women officials dedicated to National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Deployed at the River Ganga banks of UP’s Garh Mukteshwar town, the team is fully equipped and trained to provide disaster relief. While the provision allows only108 women rescuers in a 1000-membered battalion, the NDRF DG SN Pradhan said, "a mixed team will be more efficient in a disaster rescue".

Miracle: 32-Year-Old Woman Survives After Falling 650 Metres Clifftop
A 32-year-old woman survived after falling off a clifftop in Austria. The woman was saved by a carpet of snow on which she fell from a height of 650 metre. After saying 'yes' to her boyfriend over the cliff, she slipped over the rocks and fell from the Falkart mountain in Carinthia. The 27-year-old fiance who jumped over the cliff to save her girlfriend, was rescued after soaring nearly 50-feet through the air.

2 of 5 Plant Species On Verge Of Extinction: Royal Botanical Garden Report
A Report by the Royal Botanical Garden, Kew, warned 40% of the plant species are on near-extinction, owing to environmental destruction. The Study cites deforestation, invasive species and climate change as the major factors behind the issue. Prof. Antonelli, Director of the Royal Botanical Garden, said, “we are losing species faster than we can find and name them.” Reportedly, just 15 plants provide 90% of all calories.

Hurricane Sally Makes Landfall in Florida-Alabama
Hurricane Sally made a landfall at the Florida-Alabama coast on September 16. Due to its slow movement, the authorities failed to predict it's first strike. Strong winds of 165 kmph and heavy rains have effected around a million people, majorly from Pensacola, Florida. The excessive rains are expected to flood at least eight waterways in Alabama and Florida. Officials requested the people to use only text messages for communication.
