Doctors in Sri Lanka fear that soon a medical shortage could be caused as the foreign currency reserves are running out. Reportedly, hospitals are already postponing life-saving procedures for patients, since they do not have the necessary drugs. Sri Lanka imports 80% of its medicines, and the country's healthcare system is close to collapse. "If patients are in a queue for drugs, they will lose their lives," said Dr Ratnasingam.
