UN General-Secretary Antonio Guterres Warns Of 'Global Hunger Crisis' Due To Food Shortage

United Nation's General-Secretary Antonio Guterres warned of a 'catastrophe', due to a global food shortage. He said that, the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change and Russian invasion of Ukraine, have all led to difficulty in accessing food. Furthermore, the rising prices of fertilizers and energy could take a toll on farmers, creating a "global hunger crisis". UN Study States Water Shortage May Worsen Food Crisis

A report by the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization assessed that over 3 billion people are facing water scarcity, thus warned hunger and food shortages. The report highlighted that 60% of crop production and 80% of cultivable land are rainfed, hence demands sustainable use of water resources. It mentioned that food production techniques should be changed in order to lessen the emission of greenhouse gasses and prevent climate change.
