Kedarnath Yatra: 5 Pilgrims Died Due To Landslide In Uttarakhand

Five pilgrims were killed after a car they were travelling in was buried under the debris of a landslide at Tarsali under Chowki Phata in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district, police said on Saturday. According to officials, the victims, including one from Gujarat, were on their way to Kedarnath when the incident took place on Thursday evening. Furthermore, the IMD has issued rain and landslide alert in Uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand: Landslide Near Kedarnath Kills 3 People, 17 Missing

In Uttarakhand's Kedarnath, three people have died and seventeen are reportedly missing after a massive landslide occurred in the Rudraprayag district, 16 km before the Kedarnath temple. On August 5, the officials confirmed the updates and are conducting rescue and search operations. Furthermore, officials added that two roadside shops and dhabas were washed away in the heavy debris that came down from the mountain.

Massive Avalanche Occurs Near Uttarakhand’s Kedarnath Temple

A massive avalanche occurred in the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand, behind the Kedarnath Dham on October 1. Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee president informed that no casualties were reported from the incident. The incident occurred after a giant glacier behind Kedarnath broke for a second time since last month. With this, details regarding the Yatra and its status are currently awaited.

Badrinath-Kedarnath Highway Traffic Halted Due To Debris: Uttarakhand

Vehicular movement Uttarakhand's Badrinath-Kedarnath highway came to a halt, on June 30. The traffic was disrupted due to debris caused by the onset of monsoon. According to the Rudraprayag police, the Sirobgad area has been closed since 4 am due to debris and stones falling continuously from the hill. Earlier, IMD had issued yellow alert in Uttarakhand till June 29, due to incessant rains.

Char Dham Yatra Receives Record Number 18 Lakh Pilgrims This Year

Within just over a month of its commencement, the Char Dham Yatra in Garhwal Himalayas received a record number of over 18 lakh pilgrims. As of June 10, Badrinath received 6,18,312 pilgrims and Kedarnath 5,98,590. Meanwhile, Gangotri received 3,33,909 pilgrims and Yamunotri received 2,50,398 pilgrims. With this a total of 18,01,209 pilgrims visited the Himalayan temples this year.

4 More Pilgrims Die In Kedarnath, Death Toll At 38 Since May 6: Uttarakhand

In Uttarakhand's Kedarnath, four more Pilgrims lost their lives after falling ill, on May 25. Meanwhile, three others have been airlifted to Rishikesh's AIIMS via air ambulance. The deceased have been identified as Rishi Bhadauriya (65), Shambu Dayal Yadav (66), Kamalnath Bhatt (60) and Changdev Janardan Shinde. Reportedly, since May 6, over 38 Pilgrims have died on their way, due to cardiac arrest and other health problems.
