Five pilgrims were killed after a car they were travelling in was buried under the debris of a landslide at Tarsali under Chowki Phata in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district, police said on Saturday. According to officials, the victims, including one from Gujarat, were on their way to Kedarnath when the incident took place on Thursday evening. Furthermore, the IMD has issued rain and landslide alert in Uttarakhand.

Nearly 19 people were missing after heavy rains caused flashfloods and triggered a landslide on the Kedarnath Yatra route in Uttarakhand on Thursday night. Kedarnath Yatra has been halted due to heavy rains from Sonprayag onwards in Uttarakhand to ensure the safety of devotees amid fears of adverse happenings, according to the Rudraprayag district government on July 9. Within just over a month of its commencement, the Char Dham Yatra in Garhwal Himalayas received a record number of over 18 lakh pilgrims. As of June 10, Badrinath received 6,18,312 pilgrims and Kedarnath 5,98,590. Meanwhile, Gangotri received 3,33,909 pilgrims and Yamunotri received 2,50,398 pilgrims. With this a total of 18,01,209 pilgrims visited the Himalayan temples this year. 

A huge number of people visited Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand. 28 pilgrims have died on their route to Kedarnath since the yatra began for various reasons.
