A 77-Year-Old Woman Approaches Supreme Court for Studying Law

A 77-year-old woman, Rajkumari Tyagi, approached the Supreme Court to permit her to pursue a three-year LL.B course. She challenged Bar Council of India (BCI) for prescribing an upper age limit of 30 years for the course. In her plea, she mentioned that BCI violated Articles 14, 19(1)(g) and 21 of the Constitution. Reportedly, Tyagi showed an interest in law after she solely defended the estate of her late husband.

NLAT 2020: Students Complain of Technical Faults During Test

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) conducted its National Law Aptitude Test (NLAT) on September 12. But, according to reports, a number of students were unable to take the online test owing to technical faults. While a few students were unable to login, others faced problems related to submission of the test papers. However, NLSIU tweeted that it saw a strong start to NLAT with 93.2% attendance.

Parliamentary Panel Bats for Continuation of Virtual Courts

A parliamentary panel on September 11 said that virtual courts are both "cheaper and faster" and, hence, these can be continued beyond the pandemic phase. While recognizing their safety advantages, the panel noted, “[Virtual Courts] can also reduce commute time to courts and waiting time at the courts.” However, the panel also acknowledged that huge investment will be required to build infrastructure supportive to digital courts.
