India Wins Silver In Long Jump At World Athletics U20 Championships

India's Shaili Singh won a silver medal at the World Athletics U-20 Championships in the women's long jump in Kenya's Nairobi on August 22. Meanwhile, Sweden's Maja Askag bagged gold, jumping 6.60m against Singh's 6.59m and Ukraine's Mariia Horielova won bronze with a jump of 6.50m. This's the third medal of India, including a bronze in the 4x400m mixed relay team event and a silver in the 10,000m racewalking.

India Wins Silver At the World U-20 Athletics Championship

The 17-year-old Amit Khatri from India won a silver at the World U-20 Athletics Championship in men's 10,000 metres race walk on August 21 in Kenya's Nairobi. Khatri took 42 minutes 17.94 seconds to win silver while Kenya's Heristone Wanyoni won the gold and Spain's Paul McGrath won the bronze for his country. On the win, Khatri said, ''It's not the result I expected but I am happy.''

Mirabai Chanu Wins First Silver Medal In Weightlifting At Tokyo Olympic

Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has won the silver medal in the woman's 49-kg category by lifting 202 kg at the 2020 Tokyo Games on July 24. Meanwhile, China's Zhihui Hou and Indonesia's Windy Cantika Aisah secured Gold and Bronze respectively. Chanu has become the second woman medalist after Karnam Malleswari's Bronze in weightlifting. Besides, Chanu won the first medal for India at the game.

World's Largest Jewellery-Maker 'Pandora' Switches To Lab-Made Diamonds

Jewellery maker Pandora has taken a sustainable approach by switching from mined diamonds to lab-made diamonds, the company announced on May 3. The synthetic diamonds would be used in all future designs, and Pandora would release a line of rings, bangles, and earrings. Initial release of the products would be in Britain, followed by other markets. The company would also be using recycled gold and silver from 2025.

Gujarat CM Rupani Weighed Against Silver, Donates To Cow Shelters

In a 'Rajat Tula' event organised by Samast Mahajan Trust on March 29, Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani was weighed against 85 kilograms of silver. After the event, the CM donated the silver to cow shelters in the state for the welfare of livestock. Mentioning Karuna Abhiyan that aims at treating birds injured by the kite strings, CM Rupani said his government has also inducted 350 veterinary vans into the service.

Silver Remains People's Pick This Dhanteras Owing to Pandemic

Jewellers in the NCT-Delhi claimed that people are showing keen interest in buying Silver ahead of the Dhanteras festival. They opined that the unemployment due to the pandemic made people shift to the less costly metal this time. A jeweller mentioned people wanted to celebrate Dhanteras “without burning a hole in their pocket.” Another claimed that the footfall of customers and sales are very low this time owing to the pandemic.
