Tamil Nadu: CM Launches Mobile Fair Price Shops Across The State
Tamil Nadu CM K Palaniswami on September 21 launched mobile fair price shops across the state. The scheme was initially launched in the remote hilly areas of three districts by former CM Jayalalithaa. According to the scheme, a salesman from the parent ration shop will deliver the rations to people every month. Reportedly, 3,501 mobile fair price shops were announced to serve 5.37 lakh ration card holders across the state.

Tamilnadu: CM Palaniswamy Announces to Set Up New University
Tamilnadu CM Palaniswamy on September 15 announced that a new university will be set up in Villupuram. The university will be setup after bifurcating the state run Thiruvalluvar university. Reportedly, the university will start functioning from 2020-2021 academic year. The CM further stated that the administration would be more efficient only if universities were restructured in keeping with the establishment of more colleges.

Tamil Nadu: Assembly Pass Bill to Reserve Medical Seats for Government Students
The Tamil Nadu assembly on September 15, unanimously passed a bill that reserves 7.5% of the Medical seats for the Government school students. The bill was passed after a recommendation came from the commission, led by retired justice P Kalaiyarasan. According to the bill, all the Government-run school's students of TN who passed NEET will be eligible under this quota. The bill applies to MBBS, Dental, Ayurveda and homeopathy students.

RTI Application Reveals Sasikala Can be Freed from Jail in January 2021
Tamil Nadu politician, V K Sasikala, who is convicted in disproportionate assets case, can be freed from jail in January 2021. A reply to an RTI application said that Sasikala can walk out of jail on January 27, 2021 if she pays a fine of Rs 10 crore and restrains from taking further paroles. However, her lawyer expects an earlier release in October 2020.

Former Judges, 25 Lawyers Support Actor Suriya against NEET Remarks
On September 14, six former High Court (HC) judges and 25 lawyers wrote to Chief Justice of Madras HC to not take action against actor Suriya for his remarks over the court activities. Suriya in a statement against NEET examination had stated that courts operate online but students are forced to risk their lives for exams. Former Judges said, "An artistic person’s overreaction should not be taken seriously and out of context."

Tamil Nadu: Students to Get 5-Day Break from Online Classes
On September 9, Tamil Nadu Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan declared a five-day break for students from attending online classes. The break would start from September 21 and telecast of video lessons through various medium, would be interrupted.
