However, the announcement said that it was a hard decision but after consulting his team, Nadal had to take care of his health for a much better future career. Besides, he also pointed out that his body wouldn't have enough time to recover after a much demanding season if he continued.

Japanese Tennis star Naomi Osaka on May 31 withdrew from the French Open 2021 tournament stating that she needs a break from the sport. This comes after Osaka was fined Rs 10 lakh for not attending the mandatory news conference following her victory over Romania's Maria Patricia Tig. Citing her mental health as well, the 23-year-old had compared such post-match conferences to "kicking people when they are down".
