SC Allows Felling Of 4,108 Trees For New Mathura-Jhansi Railway Track
The Supreme Court on January 29 permitted Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd to axe 4,108 trees in the Taj Trapezium Zone to build a new Mathura-Jhansi railway track. The court allowed RVNL only after the latter secured a nod from Central Empowered Committee, which also mandated some conditions, including compulsory afforestation. Moreover, informing the court, RVNL said the third track is being laid out as the congestion on the existing tracks causes delay.
