Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway Requires Over 20,000 Trees To Be Cut
Karnataka’s proposed Bengaluru-Chennai eight-lane expressway will require 20,748 trees to be cut in its first phase. To be constructed in three phases, the 330km-long freeway will affect over 28,000 people. With 85% of the trees to be felled belong to dry regions of Kolar, experts believed the region would not be much harmed as majority of the trees are eucalyptus. However, cutting other trees and loss of livelihood of farmers pose a concern.
