Liberian President Declares Rape a 'National Emergency'
Liberian President George Weah, on September 12, declared rape a national emergency after witnessing a spike in the number of cases of sexual assaults in the country. The decision came after thousands of Liberians protested rising incidents of rape in the capital city of Monrovia in August. The President also mentioned that a special prosecutor would be installed and national sex offender registry will be set up.
