Sri Lanka: Villagers Break Curfew To Rescue Stranded Whales On Colombo Beach
Villagers near Colombo’s Panadura beach in Sri Lanka broke COVID-19 curfew to rescue around 100 whales that had beached. The locals pushed the small whales back to sea. Upul Ranjith, the first-eyewitness fisherman, said he had never seen such an incident before. The coastguard and navy continued rescue-operations late into the night. While beaching remains a mystery to scientists, a record stranding of whales happened in September on Australian coast.
