1st 'Severe' Smog Outbreak Strikes Delhi & NCR; Expected To Last 2 More Days
Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) have been hit by their first "severe" smog outbreak. On November 10, the green think-tank Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) predicted that it would endure another two days. The contribution of smoke peaked on November 7, when it reached 48%, as per reports. This is the second-highest daily contribution percentage recorded since 2018.

Delhi's Air Quality Remains In 'Severe' Category: SAFAR
System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) reported that the air quality in several regions of Delhi remained in the "severe category" with an overall air quality index (AQI) of 432 on November 8. People are recommended to refrain from participating in any outdoor physical activity. The AQI is still in the "severe" category, according to SAFAR, because of a huge input of stubble-related pollutants.

Delhi Air Quality To Remain In ''Very Poor'' Category, Warns IMD
RK Jenamani, India Meteorological Department's (IMD) senior scientist, on November 3 said Delhi's air quality will remain in a ''very poor'' category in the next 24 hours. According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the capital's air quality already reached the ''very poor'' category on November 3. Reportedly, the bursting of firecrackers on the occasion of Diwali will deteriorate the air quality.

Haryana Govt Bans Sale & Use Of Firecrackers In 14 Districts
The Haryana Government on October 31 announced the ban on the sale and use of firecrackers in 14 districts. The ban covers districts such as Gurugram, Rohtak, Sonipat, Bhiwani, Charki Dadri, Faridabad, Jind, Karnal, Mahendragarh, Nuh, Palwal, Panipat Rewari, and Jhajjar. Furthermore, the government's order stated the ban will also apply where the average air quality index was in the ''poor'' category in November last year.

Delhi's Air Quality Falls Under 'Very Poor' Category: SAFAR's Report
The data recorded by the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) showed Delhi's overall air quality under the ''very poor'' category, on October 30. Besides, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said that Shadipur's AQI of 364 is under the ''very poor'' category, followed by Anand Vihar's 317. Notably, the "PM 2.5 level" in Delhi stood at 122, which falls under the ''very poor'' category.

PM 2.5 Exposure Causing High Pregnancy Loss In South Asia: Study
A modelling study published in the 'The Lancet Planetary Health Journal' has reported that air pollution in South Asian countries causes around 3,49,681 pregnancy losses per year. It added that the region accounted for 7% of the pregnancy losses due to PM2.5 concentrations. Delhi Govt Mounts 150 Water Tankers, 23 Anti-smog Guns To Deal Dust Pollution
The Delhi government on November 22 stated that a total of 23 anti-smog guns were mounted at the main locations and building sites to tackle dust pollution. Besides, 150 water tankers have also been mobilized for splashing water. The government added that it would increase the number of instruments if situation arose. The government has undertaken these measures under the anti-pollution campaign, "Yuddh Pradushan Ke Viruddh".
