To support the Global Naga Forum (GNF) organised a two-day Naga Solidarity walk, hundreds of Nagas from Assam, Arunachal, Manipur and Nagaland, came together. On July 28, the GNF started the "One People, One Destiny" walk, from Kohima, expecting the convergence of thousands of Nagas in Senapati Town in Manipur on July 29. The walk will be resumed after a halt at night in the Maram Naga area, Manipur.

Famous Assam Literateur Atulananda Goswami Passes Away

Famous Sahitya Akademi Award-winning litterateur Atulananda Goswami (87) passed away, on July 27. Known for his novels and short stories, died at a hospital in Guwahati, confirmed his family members. Furthermore, Goswami was in the ICU for the past 10 days and took his last breath. Moreover, the last rights of Atulananda Goswami were performed by his son at the Navagraha crematorium in Guwahati, Assam.

Elderly Woman Killed For Allegedly Practicing Witchcraft: Assam

In Assam's Kokrajhar district, an adivasi woman was killed on a suspicion that she was practicing witchcraft. The incident took place on July 23, in Bongaijora village Part-II in the district. According to the police, the 55-year-old woman was covered in a pool of blood in the verandah of her house. Three persons have been arrested in connection to the murder. Further investigation is underway.

Police Arrest 2 Youths For Alleged Rape Of Minor Girl: Assam

In Assam's Hailakandi district, two youths have been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl, informed police on July 21. The accused have been identified as Abul Hussain and Salim Uddin. According to Superintendent of Police Gaurav Upadhyay, the minor was raped in the forest area of Kanchiala village. He further stated that the forest area is very remote, and the officials have taken the matter very seriously.

Earthquake Of 4.8 Magnitude Jolts Manipur: NCS

The National Centre of Seismology (NCS) informed that an earthquake of 4.8 magnitude occurred in Manipur, on July 16. The earthquake occurred in the East South-east Moirang, at around 11:42 pm, and had a depth of 94 km. NCS is the nodal agency of the Indian government, that monitors earthquake activities in the country. Furthermore, on July 5, an earthquake of 3.7 magnitude on the Richter scale occurred in Assam.

Six Elephants Stranded In Muddy Pond Rescued By Forest Dept Officials: Assam

In Assam's Goalpara, six elephants which were stranded in a man-made muddy pond, has been rescued successfully, informed Forest Department. The pond is situated in Chaibari, Lakhipur. Soon after receiving information about the stranded elephants, the Forest Department officials rushed to the spot. Reportedly, the elephants were pulled out by creating an escape way using an excavator.

Security Forces Seize 477 Kg Ganja In Assam's Karbi Anglong

In Assam's Karbi Anglong district, police seized 477 Kg ganga from a truck, on July 17. The incident occurred in the Bokajan town, and driver Ram Chandra Yadav (57), was arrested. Upon receiving a piece of confidential information, the security forces set up a temporary check post at Khakrajan area. Reportedly, the truck which was intercepted, was coming from Dimapur side of Nagaland.

Woman Forced To Drink Acid By In-Laws In Assam's Karimganj; Dies

In Assam's Karimganj district, the in-laws of Sumna Begum allegedly forced her to consume acid, due to which she passed away, police said on July 14. Following the incident, police arrested her husband Shakeel Ahmed. The family of the deceased claimed that Begum was physically and mentally tortured last few days. Reportedly, Begum succumbed to her injuries, and died at hospital.
