Assam Floods: Eknath Shinde Led Rebel Shiv Sena Faction Donates Rs 51 Lakh To CM Relief Funds

Rebel Shiv Sena MLA faction led by Eknath Shinde, donated Rs 51 lakh to the CM relief fund, to help with the ongoing flood situation in Assam. Currently, Shinde and the other rebel MLAs are camping at Radisson Blu hotel in Assam's Guwahati. The overall flood situation in Assam has subsided, however, over 33 lakh people are still affected across 28 districts in the state.

Assam Minister Ashok Singhal Meets Shiv Sena Rebel MLAs At Radisson Blu Hotel: Maharashtra Political Crisis

Amid the ongoing political crisis in Maharashtra, Assam Minister Ashok Singhal visited the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs, who are camping at Radisson Blu hotel in Guwahati. Notably, Eknath Shinde, leader of the rebel MLAs and the new faction 'Shiv Sena Balasaheb', claimed that he has the support of 38 Shiv Sena MLAs out of 55 legislators. Which means, the political crisis has slowly tilted towards Shinde, as of now.

While addressing a press conference, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the discrimination against northeast students have gone down in recent years due to PM Modi's outreach to the region. He said that the discrimination has gone down to a "huge extent" due to "PM Modi's huge outreach to the northeast". He further stated that PM Modi's "visionary leadership has repositioned India as a strong global power".

Assam Govt To Spend Rs 1,000 Crore For Infrastructure Development In Sports Sector: Bimal Bora

Assam's minister for sports and youth welfare Bimal Bora said that the state government has decided to spend Rs 1000 crore for the infrastructure development of the state's sports sector. Within two years, 10 sports complexes will be constructed at district levels and multipurpose stadiums will be constructed in 40 assembly constituencies. Reportedly, Rs 50 crore will be spent on each sports complexes and Rs 12 crore for the latter.

Counting Of Votes Begins In Assam: Guwahati Municipal Corporation Election

The counting of the votes for the Guwahati Municipal Corporation Election has begun, on April 24. The election which witnessed a 52.80% voter turnout, took place on April 22. Reportedly, 57 out of 60 wards are being contested in. Congress party contested in 54 wards, BJP in 50 wards, AAP in 39 wards, Assam Jatiya Parishad in 25 wards and Ason Gana Parishad in seven wards.

1 Held For Possession Of 1 Kg Pangolin Scale In Guwahati: Assam

In Assam's Guwahati, Assam Forest Department has arrested a man with one kilogram of Pangolin scale, on March 17. The Guwahati police and the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau, Assam Forest Department in a joint operation arrested the accused and seized one kilogram of Pangolin from Guwahati, Assam. A case has been registered under the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972. Further details are awaited.

Inland Waterways Between Haldia-Guwahati To Begin Soon: Assam

Guwahati will soon be connected via inland waterways, announced Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on January 2. He further said that a contract has also been given for the same. Reportedly, the project will facilitate inland cargo from West Bengal's Haldia to Pandu terminal in Guwahati. Sonowal added that the government is planning to encourage banks to issue soft funds in this sector by providing guarantees.

IndiGo's Guwahati-Pune Flight Gets Inaugurated By Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia

The daily flight of IndiGo between Guwahati and Pune was inaugurated by Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on December 16. Reportedly, the flight will depart at 10:40 PM from Guwahati airport and land at Pune airport at 2:15 AM. It will then depart from Pune airport at 2:50 AM and land at 6:05 AM at Guwahati airport. Besides, the company also operates flights from Assam's Silchar, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat.
