Kerala has received a yellow alert from Central Meteorological Department for July 8 and July 9. For the next five days, Kerala is under a severe rain and thunder alert. A red alert has been issued near Lower Periyar and Kallarkutty dams, orange alert near Peringalkuth dam, and blue alert near Kuttiadi Dam. National Disaster Response Force has sent teams to several areas in response to the heavy rain warning. 

In the midst of persistent heavy rain in Karnataka, Dakshina Kannada DC Dr. K V Rajendra and Udupi DC Kurma Rao M proclaimed a holiday for all educational institutions in the districts on July 5.
