SC Issues Notice to Centre & Bengal Govt Over Pegasus Inquiry Panel

Supreme Court on August 18, requested responses from the Centre and the West Bengal government to a petition challenging the state's decision to establish a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the Pegasus allegations. "We will issue notice," said the bench, led by Chief Justice NV Ramana. The bench also issued notices to the Centre and the Bengal government on the appeal and scheduled it for hearing on August 25.

Central Government Awaits Recommendations To Fill Vacancies In SC and HCs

The Centre awaits recommendations for major judicial vacancies at the Supreme Court and High courts. The SC has seven vacancies with the first arising after Justice Ranjan Gogoi retired in November 2019 as the Chief Justice of India. However, Kolkata and Allahabad's HC are run by acting Chief Justices at the moment. Moreover, the Chief Justices of Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh HC to retire in May and June respectively.
