Maharashtra State Animal Husbandry Department informed that as many as 43 animals have died of Lumpy Skin Virus, and 21 districts have been reportedly affected. The state has notably, started vaccinating cattle across the state. No effect on milk production and consumption has been reported yet. Reportedly, it’s the cows and buffaloes who have fallen victim to the virus. It is feared that the virus could be transmitted through milk. 

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde asked authorities in several districts of Maharashtra to be prepared amid rainfall alert.  Notably, on September 8, the IMD issued a yellow alert in Maharashtra, following which Shinde led Government asked the concerned department to be ready with rescue teams and relief mechanisms. The forest department in Maharashtra’s Nashik, has rescued a female leopard of three to four years old, September 6. Reportedly, the leopard was found in Nashik’s Deoli camp area, and will now be released into the forest by the department. The officials stated that the leopard is in a healthy condition. Earlier on September 5, four persons were arrested in Nashik for leopard skin smuggling.

Maharashtra police arrested three MNS workers after a video of them abusing, assaulting and pushing an elderly woman went viral on social media. The accused have been identified as Vinod Argyle, Raju Argyle and Satish Lad, and case under sections 323, 337, 506, 504 and 509 of IPC. Reportedly, the accused were installing a bamboo structure to hang a banner in front of a shop, to which the woman opposed.

Bollywood actor Kamaal R Khan has been arrested by Mumbai’s Malad police on August 30. The arrest has come over Khan’s controversial social media post in 2020. Reportedly, Khan landed at Mumbai airport, and immediately was apprehended by the police there. Khan is expected to be produced before Mumbai’s Borivali court, where the next course of action will be decided. Further details on the matter are awaited.
