Maharashtra Teacher Charged For Dismissing Class 10 Student

A private school teacher charged for caning a Class 10 pupil and breaking his hand in Maharashtra's Thane. Police launched a case on August 27 under section 325 (voluntarily causing severe harm) of IPC, based on a complaint filed by the wounded student's parents. The 15-year-old youngster had a disagreement with a classmate, who complained to the instructor. The accused then caned the victim, causing his wrist to swell.

Students Develop Mumbai's 1st Live Streaming Azaan App, 'Al-Islaah,' Amid Loudspeaker Dispute

Four third-year IT undergraduate students from Maharashtra College started developing the azaan (call to prayer) app "Al-Islaah" in an effort to settle the loudspeaker dispute constructively. In the midst of the boiling debate about 'azaan' over loudspeakers, which has silenced many peace activists, the students released this app on August 24 that focuses on live streaming azaan. It will be accessible for both Android and iOS.

Mumbai Taximen Union Threatens To Go On Strike, Demands Fare Hike By Rs 10

Mumbai Taximen’s union has issued warning to the state government for possible strikes, demanding for a fare hike by Rs 10. The union warned stating that if the demands weren’t met, taxi and auto drivers would go on strike on September 15. The union cited inflated costs of CNG. The union also claimed that the daily earnings of auto-rickshaw drivers have been dropped by Rs 250-300.

Two Nigerians Arrested By Mumbai Police For Drug Peddling

Two Nigerians have been arrested by Mumbai police’s anti-narcotics unit, for the offence on drug peddling. Reportedly, the arrest was carried out near Mankhurd, and around 1kg of MD drug worth Rs 2 crore 80 lakh. has been seized. Reportedly, the group distributes drugs across Mumbai. A case has been filed under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Mumbai Police Pose As Zomato Delivery Boys To Nab Chain-Snatchers

Mumbai police personnel wore the dress of Zomato delivery boys to arrest chain-snatchers  who had several cases of chain-snatching pending against them. After going through 300 CCTV cameras, the police identified the bike which was used for the crime, as it was parked at a railway station. The police waited for three days for the accuse to come and pick up the vehicle.

Unidentified Boat With AK-47, Rifles Found On Harihareshwar Shore

In Raigad, an unidentified boat with AK-47, rifles and bullets was found on the shore of Harihareshwar at Shrivardhan, said district management. On August 17, the lifeboat was found on the shore of Mauje Bhardakhol with weapons, but no person was on the boat. Notably, Harihareshwar is about 200 km from Mumbai and 170 km from Pune. The police have launched an investigation and are inspecting the weapons.
