The surgeons of KIMS hospital of Hyderabad performed India's first breathing lung transplant surgery. It was performed on a middle aged person, suffering from end stage interstitial lung disease. Dr Anand Attawar and his team performed the surgery, on December 12. Breathing lung procedure helps mitigating lung, improved lungs functioning compared to a donated lung and better results for long term. 

Following the success of COVID-19 vaccine delivery through drones, Manipur also successfully delivered the medicine in the state on October 9. The drone completed its first flight between Churachandpur's Health and Wellness Centre to Bishnupur's District Hospital. The Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institute, Sweden, awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in Medicine to three researchers for the discovery of Hepatitis - C Virus. Researchers Harvey J Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles M Rice will share the award for their discovery. Hyderabad-based Reddy's Laboratories launched it's Over-The-Counter (OTC) Diclofenac sodium gel in US markets on September 9. The gel is used for temporary relief from arthritis pain in hand, wrist, elbow, knee and other areas. The company collaborated with Encube Ethicals in launching the product. North America Generics CEO Marc Kikuchi said, "The launch represents our continued commitment to the private label OTC space".
