Meghalaya To Bring EV Policy 2021; Eyes To Curb 36.5L Kg CO2/Year

Meghalaya Government has introduced a new electric vehicle policy 2021 to be implemented from April 1. Applicable for the next five years, the policy aims at ensuring 15% EVs in Meghalaya by 2025 to save roughly 50 lakh litres of fuel. Offering incentives to early birds, the government plans to include over 20,000 EVs in the next five years. Meghalaya Govt Again Slashes Petrol, Diesel Price By Rs 5

Amid skyrocketing fuel prices, the Meghalaya government on February 16 slashed the VAT on petrol and diesel by Rs 5. With this move, the petrol prices stood at Rs 85.86 from Rs 91.26 per litre and diesel costs Rs 79.13 from its current Rs 86.23 per litre. Interestingly, the state’s order came after the commercial transporters launched an immediate hunger strike against the increasing fuel prices.

Meghalaya: Anti-mining Protest Turns Violent; 7 Police Personnel Injured

A protest against a limestone mining project in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills turned violent on November 21, leaving at least seven police personnel, including women constables, injured. The violence broke out after protesters rushed to the public hearing site and started throwing stones. The police resorted to tear-gas and stun grenades to bring the situation under control. Reportedly, over 1,000 people had gathered to the site.

Meghalaya Records 109 Fresh COVID Cases

According to Health Services director Dr. Aman War, the covid-19 tally of Meghalaya has reached to 2,626 with 109 fresh COVID cases. "In the northeastern state, over 94,000 samples have been tested till date," he mentioned. Reportedly, the state has 1,220 active cases, while the death toll sticks to 13 so far and the number of recovered patients stays 1,393.
