Mohammed Zubair Walks Out Of Tihar Jail After SC Order Release

AltNews co-founder Mohammed Zubair was released from judicial custody and walked out of Tihar Jail, on July 20 evening. He was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police in allegations of posting controversial tweets in 2018. The release was as per directions of the Supreme Court bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud, which reviewed Zubair's bail plea. The Top Court further ordered to transfer six-FIRs against Zubair to Delhi Police.

SC Orders Release Of Mohammed Zubair In UP FIRs, Transfers Case To Delhi

The Supreme Court granted release for fact-checker Mohammed Zubair, in 2018 controversial tweet case. On July 20, the Apex Court ordered the release of AltNews founder in all the FIRs registered in UP.  The bench also directed for the transfer of the cases to the Delhi police, from the UP police. Justice DY Chandrachud also said, Zubair should be released from Tihar Jail, before 6pm today.

SC Directs UP Police Not To Take Action Against Zubair Until July 20

Supreme Court (SC) reviewed an urgent petition filed by Alt News Co-founder Mohammed Zubair, on July 18. Justice DY Chandrachud and BY Banopanna directed the Uttar Pradesh police not to take precipitative action against Zubair, in 2018 controversial tweet case, until July 20.  The Apex Court bench listed the matter for next hearing on July 20. Notably, Mohammed filed a plea, seeking quashing of six FIRs, filed against him in UP.

Fact-Check Case: UP Sessions Court Dismisses Alt News Co-Founder Mohammed Zubair's Bail Application

A sessions court in Uttar Pradesh on July 16 denied Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair's bail application in a fact-checking case. The hearing on Zubair's police custody detention will take place on July 20, according to Zubair's lawyer, Harjit Singh. In September 2021, Zubair was summoned by a Lakhimpur Kheri court in connection with a charge brought against him by a journalist from a news station for a fact-check tweet.

UP Sessions Court To Hear Zubair's Bail Plea In Fact-Check Case

Bail hearing for Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair is set for July 16 at sessions court in Uttar Pradesh. Harjeet Singh, Zubair's lawyer, informed the court that the plaintiff had raised an objection to the bail application made in English, causing the bail hearing to be postponed. A Lakhimpur Kheri court summoned him in September 2021 in a case made by a news channel journalist for a fact-check tweet.

SC Grants Interim Bail To Mohammed Zubair In UP Hate Speech

In a relief to Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair, the Supreme Court reviewed his bail plea, and granted him interim relief on July 8.  During the hearing of plea, challenging the Allahabad HC refusal to quash FIR against him in Uttar Pradesh hate speech. Justice Banerjee granted five-day bail with conditions that Zubair will not move out of the court's jurisdiction, and post controversial tweets further.

SC To Examine Alt News Zubair's Petition For Protection From Arrest

Supreme Court will hear a plea filed by Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair seeking protection from arrest on July 8. It will also examine the plea against Allahabad High Court's decision to uphold the FIR filed after he reportedly referred to three Hindu seers in a tweet as "hate mongers." Zubair further requested that the probe be halted and UP police not "proceed, prosecute, or arrest" him based on FIR.

Delhi's Patiala House Court Rejects Bail Of Alt News' Zubair, Sentenced To 14-Day Judicial Custody

Delhi's Patiala House Court denied Alt News co-founder Mohd Zubair's bail application and ordered him 14-day Judicial custody in a case involving an allegedly offensive tweet on July 2. Zubair appeared in court on July 2 after his 4-day police detention expired. The accused has also been suspected of conspiracy and evidence destruction in the case. In court, the police also said that Zubair received payments from foreign countries.
