IMD Forecasts Moderate To Heavy Rainfall In Delhi Till July 10

Delhi received light to moderate rainfall on July 3, with the maximum temperature settling at 35.7 degrees Celsius. With estimates of moderate to heavy rainfall, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared a yellow alert for the next two days and an "orange" alert for July 6. The IMD predicts that till July 10, Delhi will see a typically gloomy sky with light showers and thunderstorms.

Monsoon To Hit Entire India By July 6: IMD Forecast

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that monsoon will cover the whole of India by July 6. Notably, monsoon is yet to arrive in some parts including Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana. By June 30, monsoon had advanced into entire northwest India including Delhi. According to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, "above-normal" rains will be witnessed across the country till July 7.

Assam Floods: 4 More Die In Last 24 Hours, 11.09 Lakh Affected Across 25 Districts

In the Assam flood which affected over 11.09 lakh people across 25 districts in the state, at least four persons died in the last 24 hours, on June 17. Reportedly, around 19782.80 hectares of cropland have been submurged, including 1,510 villages under 72 revenue circles, which are currently underwater. Furthermore, water levels of Pagladiya, Manas, Puthimari, Kopili, Gaurang and Brahmaputra rivers are flowing above the danger level mark.

Flooding On The Cards In Mumbai This Monsoon As Debris Blocks Pipelines

Flooding is on the cards in Mumbai this monsoon season as pipelines are choked with debris, thanks to illegal dumping. "I had demanded a criminal complaint against the Mumbai Metro authorities and the contractors Dogus Soma JV for dumping muddy silt and slurry illegally," shares activist Ankush Kurade. Illegal dumping has been going on unabated in the city, resulting in choked drainage pipes.

Water Pumps To Be Installed To Avoid Water-Logging: Delhi Govt

The Delhi government has instructed the officials to install water pumps in order to solve the waterlogging issue during heavy rainfall. CM Arvind Kejriwal, earlier, on August 24 chaired a meeting over Drainage Master Plan and had instructed the PWD & Water Minister Satyendar Jain to take initiatives to resolve the problem. However, the PWD officials have identified 147 water logging sites across the city.

As per the direction of HP's emergency center, a rain-led landslide at Jeori near Rampur in Shimla has shut down NH-5 for the public. Authorities claim no loss of life & property. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rampur & a police team has been stationed by the DM to examine the situation. Heavy rain during the monsoon season in eco-fragile Himachal Pradesh has caused frequent landslides.
