Goa's Flood Monitoring System Falls Victim To Ransomware Attack; Hackers Demand Crypto Payment

Goa's flood monitoring system has fallen victim to ransomware attack. The attackers reportedly demanded to be paid in Crypto currency for the data to be released. According to a complaint filed in cyber cell, the department claimed that all its filed have were encrypted and hence could not be accessed. As a result of hacking, the department has no access to data related to battery voltages, data packets and more.

US Pres Joe Biden Investigates Latest Ransomware Cyber Attack

US President Joe Biden has ordered all US intelligence agencies to investigate the ransomware attack that targeted Kaseya's computer network management tool. Reportedly, about 200 businesses were encrypted and about 1,000 businesses were targeted. Biden has requested the agencies to respond swiftly towards whoever is responsible, even if the attack originated from Putin's Russia.

Cyberattack Hits 200 Businesses In United States

A cyberattack targeted Kaseya's computer network management tool, leading the US IT firm to advise organizations to halt servers to avoid ransomware. "We are in the process of investigating the root cause of the incident, but we recommend that you immediately shut down your VSA server until you receive further notice from us," Kaseya said in Reddit. Reportedly, about 200 businesses were encrypted.

India Is Second Most Targeted Country For Cyber Attacks: Study

An IISS study on cyber power showed that India was subjected to frequent cyber-attacks in 2019 and 2020. In India, over 394,499 cases were reported in 2019, and 2020 saw a surge in attacks, particularly from China. India is claimed to be in the third-tier of cyber power as the country's cyber power is still under development. After the US, India was the second-most targeted country for ransomware attacks in 2020.
