COVID-19: Apple Inc To Vaccinate Its Employees At Its Offices

Apple Inc. on April 23 announced to begin an inoculation program to help its employees get vaccinated for COVID-19. For the voluntary vaccination program the tech-giant partnered with Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. to procure the required vaccines. Soon, Apple will also start a website for employees to book appointments to receive the vaccine. Notably, Apple is one of the first company in Silicon Valley to launch such a program.

UAE To Suspend Flights From India From April 25; Cites COVID Surge

Due to the record rise in COVID-19 cases in India, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has decided to stop all flights between India and the middle-eastern nation from April 25. Reportedly, the travel ban will be re-evaluated after a period of 10 days. However, people travelling from India through other countries must stay for at least 14 days in that third destination.

Jharkhand Locked From April 22-29; Essentials Services To Continue

The Jharkhand government on April 20 announced a week long state-wide lockdown, due to rising COVID cases in the state. Reportedly, the lockdown will start at 6AM on April 22 and will end at 6PM on April 29. Besides relaxing the essential services to operate, the government has also exempted the places of worship without allowing any devotees. CM Hemant Soren appealed to observe lockdown as ‘Swashtya suraksha saptah’.

India Gives COVID Jab To 122M People In 92 Days; Surpasses US, China

India on April 18 become the first country in the world to vaccinate 122 million people against COVID-19 in 92 days. Crossing the numbers set by US and China, over 2.6 million people were vaccinated in last 24 hours, which took the vaccine administered figure to 122,622,590. Interestingly, the states reporting the highest number of COVID cases including Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal also administered the highest COVID jabs.

Centre To Increase Supply Of Remdesivir Up To 3 Lakh Vials Per Day

The Centre is eyeing to increase the supply of Remdesivir injection from the current level of 1.5 lakh vials per day to 3 lakh vials a day in the market within two weeks. "20 plants are producing Remdesivir and 20 more plants have been approved for the production of this injection," said Union Chemical and Fertilizer Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Leading drug makers have already reduced the price of Remdesivir injections.

COVID-19: 10 States/ UTs Account For India's 79.32% Cases Says Health Ministry

The Health Ministry's report on April 17 stated that ten states/UTs accounted for the countries 79.32% of total new Covid-19 cases. The states/UTs are Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan. Sixteen states and UTs are showing a steep increase in cases, Maharashtra accounts for 38.09% of the country's total active caseload.
