After forming the State Government in Karnataka, the Indian National Congress started its first K'taka Assembly Session. As of now, there is no finalisation of the Assembly Speaker, therefore RV Deshpande has been named as protem speaker of the Assembly. State Governor Thawarchand Gehlot administered the oath to Deshpande to hold the Assembly, which will be held til May 24. The Session started two-days after Siddaramaiah took oath as CM.

During a hearing, the Supreme Court (SC) asked the newly-elected Maharashtra Assembly speaker not to proceed with the plea seeking disqualification of MLAs.
