Wrestler Sushil Kumar Sent To Tihar Jail; Food Supplements Denied

Olympic medallist wrestler, Sushil Kumar has been shifted from Mandoli Jail to Tihar Jail. He was arrested in connection with the murder of fellow wrestler Sagar Dhankar. Special security measures have been arranged, and police officers are stationed near his quarters across the clock. Kumar was also denied a plea for special food requests, protein supplements and exercise bands as he wanted to continue his career in wrestling.

Activist Natasha Narwal Granted Interim Bail After Father's Death

The Delhi High Court on May 10 granted interim bail to Pinjra Tod activist Natasha Narwal after her father Mahavir Narwal died on May 9. Reportedly, the bail was granted because there was no one else in the family to perform last rites. Natasha was booked and arrested under UAPA for her alleged involvement in the northeast Delhi riots in 2020. Natasha’s brother Aakash is also COVID positive.

Jail Authorities Requests Centre To Release Prisoners Amid COVID-19 Death

Citing four deaths at Tihar jail due to COVID-19, the authorities have requested the Delhi government to allow the release of prisoners over parole. Reacting on the request, the officials have intended to decongest the jail as over 20,000 inmates i.e almost double the official capacity are currently lodged. However, several petitions among the city jails have been filed for the release of prisoners, accused of non-heinous crimes.

Ex-JNU Student, Activist Umar Khalid Tests COVID Positive In Tihar Jail

Former JNU student and activist, Umar Khalid, who was arrested for his involvement in the 2020 Delhi riots case, has tested positive for COVID-19 in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. Reportedly, the 33-year-old activist has been isolated in the jail following the symptoms. As of April 23, the prison has recorded 227 active COVID-19 cases, including inmates and staff, in the premises. Currently, there are about 20,000 inmates in Tihar Jail.

3468 Tihar Jail Inmates Released During COVID Last Year Go Missing

About 3,468 out of 6,740 Tihar jail inmates, who were released on COVID parole last year, have gone missing. Prisoners suffering from various ailments were released for eight weeks and were expected to return by the end of March. Reportedly, only 2,200 of the 5,556 undertrial inmates released on the parole have returned. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have been actively tracking the missing prisoners.

Phone Used To Threat Ambani Found In Tihar Cell Of Mujahideen Terrorist

The Delhi Police have traced the telegram channel, which was used to claim responsibility of threatening Mukesh Ambani, to Tihar jail. Raiding jail barrack where serial blast accused Indian Mujahideen’s Tehseen Akhtar is housed, the police have also seized the phone used in hoax.
