Japanese PM Suga Says He Never Prioritised Tokyo Olympics

Weeks before the start of the Tokyo Olympics, Japanese PM Yoshihide Suga on May 10 said that he never prioritised Olympics. The statement came after an opinion poll showed that over 60% of the public are against the Tokyo Olympics being conducted in current COVID crisis. The opposition also lashed at the ruling party saying that the public is unhappy with PM Suga's handling of the pandemic.

Tokyo Olympics Countdown Begins With Torch Relay From Fukushima

The journey to Tokyo Olympics has officially begun on March 25 as the Japanese Women's football team carried the Olympic torch through Fukushima. The torch will now be carried by 10,000 runners across 859 locations for 120 days before the opening ceremony slated for July 23. Fukushima was chosen as the starting point to pay tribute to 18,000 deceased people who died in 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

Earthquake Of 7.2 Magnitude Shakes Japan; Tsunami Warning Issued

Earthquake of magnitude 7.2 has left Japan's Tokyo in shambles and has led to tsunami warnings on the country’s northeast coast.  U.S. Geological Survey said that the earthquake was epicentered 34 kilometers (21 miles) east of Ishinomaki at a depth of 60 kilometers (37 miles). Reportedly, the origin of the disaster was the coast of Miyagi prefecture, one of the most affected regions of the 2011 tsunami.

Tokyo to Host 32 Athletes For a One-Day International Gymnastics Tournament
