32 People Injured After An Earthquake Jolts In Japan's Tokyo
Following a powerful earthquake in Japan's Greater Tokyo, 32 people have reportedly been injured, said media reports on October 8. Furthermore, reports said that three of them are in critical condition. Earlier, an earthquake magnitude of 5.9 on the Richter scale struck the capital city of Japan on the evening of October 7. However, Japan is very close to the Ring of fire that usually causes powerful earthquakes here.

Japan Reports New Mutation In COVID-19 Delta Variant
Amid the menace of the COVID-19 Delta variant, Japan found a new mutation of the virus on August 31. However, it's the first case in the country and the ninth case in the world. The mutation, N501S, was reported in a person who's already infected with the Delta variant, said Professor Hiroaki Takeuchi at Tokyo MDU Hospital. Besides, its impact on transmissibility is yet to be revealed through further study.

Panamanian Registered Ship Splits Into Two Parts On Northern Japan Harbour
The “Crimson Polaris”, a 39,910-tonne vessel while wrecked, splits into two, leaking oil on northern Japan’s Hachinohe harbour. The incident occurred on August 12. However, 21 of its crew happened to be safe with no injuries reported. The Panamanian-registered ship was at the end of its journey, was returning from Thailand. Patrol boats had taken containment measures.

Tokyo Olympics: 2 Athletes Test Covid Positive In Olympics Village
According to the officials, two athletes have tested Covid positive in the Tokyo Olympic village, just two days ahead of Tokyo Olympics 2020. The onset of the Olympics is already spreading a word of concern owing to the surge in Covid-19 cases in Japan. The Tokyo Olympic Village intends to accommodate 6,700 athletes and officials. The Olympics will happen inside the closed doors to curb the spread of Coronavirus.

Tokyo City Bans Public Olympic Torch Relay Amid Covid-19 Concerns
The Tokyo city administration has banned the public Olympic Torch relay events due to concerns over Covid-19. After being delayed several times due to the pandemic, the summer Olympics will finally take place in 2021. According to officials, the decision to host a private flame lighting ceremony was taken to contain the spread of Covid-19. The ceremony will take place on 23rd July 2021 and will be streamed online for spectators.

Olympics: Escalated Restriction On 11 Countries, Including India
The Tokyo Olympics organisers have increased restrictions on athletes and participants from 11 countries, including India where new variants of Covid-19 have been found. The new guidelines issued on June 18 say they are not allowed to socialize with athletes from other countries for the first three days after arriving in Tokyo. Further, Indians & others from five countries have to get them tested every day at the games.
