Yamuna River Water Level Crosses Danger Mark, Delhi Authority Issues Alert

The concerned authority in Delhi issued an alert after the water level of the Yamuna river breached the danger mark of 205.33 metres. The major cause is due to the heavy rain in upper catchment areas, prompting authorities to chalk out a strategy to evacuate people from low-lying areas. Furthermore, the Delhi flood control room said the water level reached 205.38 metres. Rescue force and boats are on stand-by.

Flood Alert Issued In Delhi, Yamuna Water Level To Cross Danger Mark Due To Heavy Rains

Following significant rain in higher catchment regions, Yamuna is flowing dangerously near to the alert level of 204.5 meters in Delhi, and its water level is expected to break the danger threshold on August 13 morning, according to officials. On August 11, the Delhi flood control room issued a warning. The discharge rate from the Yamuna Nagar-located Hathnikund Barrage has exceeded 1 lakh cusecs, prompting a flood warning in Delhi.

Heavy Rains In Delhi; Water Level Nears Danger Mark In Yamuna

Heavy rainfall in Delhi has caused waterlogging in many areas with the Yamuna river's water level inching closer to the danger mark. Locals living near Naini Lake are equally concerned about the rising water levels. The IMD has predicted thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rains in Delhi and its surrounding areas. Reportedly, "a portion of the road near the IIT-Delhi flyover caved in on July 31 as well".

Fishing In Yamuna River Suspended Due To Excessive Pollution

Delhi Govt Bans Soaps, Detergent To Prevent Yamuna River Pollution

In an attempt to curb Yamuna river's pollution, the Delhi govt has initiated a ban over soaps and detergents if the latest guidelines of BIS not followed. However, the decision comes in the wake of saving Yamuna river from pollution as toxic foam used by Industries, dhobi ghats and households. Besides, the detergent and soap manufacturers will now have to disclose the ingredients used in their products.

UP: Dozens Bodies Float In Yamuna; Locals Allege Govt Hiding COVID Deaths

Panic surfaced in UP's Hamirpur district after dozens of bodies were seen floating in the Yamuna River on May 10. Many locals alleged it as the government's attempt to hide the official COVID death numbers. However, Hamirpur’s Assistant Superintendent of Police Anoop Kumar Singh said the locals were disposing the bodies in the sacred river instead of cremating them owing to religious sentiments and COVID fears.

SC Hands Notice To Haryana Govt Over Excess Ammonia Release In Yamuna

The Supreme Court on January 13 issued a notice to Haryana Government over the pollution in the Yamuna River. Reportedly, the notice was issued after taking suo-moto cognizance of the Delhi Jal Board that alleged Haryana over releasing high ammonia polluted water.
