Centre Opposes PIL Seeking Recognition For Same-Sex Marriage In Delhi HC

The Centre has opposed a PIL filed by Abhijit Iyer Mitra and three others in Delhi HC seeking recognition of same-sex marriage under Indian Marriage Acts. The government said that having same-sex relationships did not comply with the "Indian family unit concept". Moreover, it stated that the petitioners could not claim same-sex marriage as fundamental right despite decriminalization of section 377 and that the matter should be solved legislatively.
