Meghalaya's Home Minister Resigns After Ex-Militant’s Death
Meghalaya's Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui tendered his resignation on August 15 amid unrest over ex-militants death in Shilong. He called for a judicial investigation “to bring out the truth” behind the death of a surrendered militant of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), Cherishterfield Thangkhiew. Mobile services were curtailed in four districts while imposing a strict curfew in Shillong after many protested against the alleged "cold-blooded murder".
