The Spirit of Independence Day Celebration Triumphs COVID-19
The celebration of India’s 74th Independence Day was different only in the form but not in spirit. This year, the Independence Day was celebrated in a restricted manner with no mass gathering taking place and citizens adhering to the social distancing norms. Also, the traditional flag hoisting ceremony was conducted at many places after ensuring that the health precautions have been taken. Besides, children celebrated the occasion through their online classes.
While 7-year-old Kavyaa from Kolkata dressed as Sarojini Naidu for an online fancy dress competition, 5-year-old Jiyana from Mumbai was taught the importance of the day virtually. In normal times, schools and colleges used to start rehearsals for the celebration a few days prior to the event. "Every year we did parade in the college premise but this year we could not; albeit the spirit is still the same with the flag hoisting ceremony," said a 22-year-old student.
