268 Flights Cancelled In 5 Days At Srinagar Airport Due To Poor Visibility

Amid poor visibility due to inclement weather, over 53 flights are being cancelled on a daily basis at the Kashmir's Srinagar airport for the last five days. A total of 268 flights were cancelled since January 4 including 134 from Srinagar to various destinations, airport spokesman said. Meanwhile, the disruptions have left travelers disappointed, especially tourists, many of whom have been stranded in the valley.

Rajasthan Govt Gives Nod For New Greenfield Airport In Kota

Rajasthan's Kota is expected to get a new greenfield airport as the state cabinet approved the development plan for the airport. As per sources, it also allotted free land for the airport. The new airport is expected to make travel easier for people. ''With this decision, economic activities would be strengthened,'' said the state government in its statement.

Customs Department Confiscate Hardik Pandya's Watches Worth Rs 5 Cr: Mumbai

The Mumbai Customs Department confiscated two wrist watches worth Rs 5 crores from cricketer Hardik Pandya at the airport on November 14 after he arrived without an invoice receipt. Hardik Pandya was on his way back from Dubai. Incidentally, Hardik's brother, cricketer Krunal Pandya, was detained at Mumbai International Airport last year on suspicion of having unreported gold and other assets.

Boxer Amir Khan Accuses American Airlines Of 'Unfair Treatment'

British Boxer Amir Khan posted a video on Twitter on September 18 where he was seen accusing American Airlines of unfair treatment by forcing him to leave and miss his scheduled flight. He added that he felt "disgusted" by the unfair treatment. However, American Airlines stated that Khan was only escorted out of the airplane because he violated Covid-19 guidelines and his mask was not "high enough".

28 Feared Dead In Plane Crash In Russia: Reports

The Antonov An-26, a plane carrying 28 people that had gone missing has been found crashed into a sea cliff in Palana, Russia on July 6. Reportedly, the pilots were trying to land the plane in adverse weather conditions but failed to respond to a scheduled communication before vanishing from radar. So far, no bodies could be retracted. However, the search-and-rescue operation is underway.

Philippine Military Plane Crash Reports 17 Deaths; 40 Rescued

According to a local commander, 17 people have died and several are left injured as a Philippine military aircraft carrying over 92 passengers has crashed in the southern Philippines on July 4. Almost 40 passengers have been rescued from the plane so far and the "rescue efforts are ongoing". The accident happened when the pilots missed the runway while trying to land the plane at Jolo airport.

Assam: Abandoned WW-II Airstrip Becomes Operational After Decades

What could be called a gladsome development, a previously defunct WW-II airstrip in Assam has become operational. The airstrip, Rupsi Airport, has been redeveloped under the Centre's UDAN scheme that aims to improve regional air-connectivity across India. Interestingly, the airport was a a strategic WW-II airstrip that used to house warplanes. Notably, it witnessed the last commercial flight operation in 1983 before being closed.

Govt Orders To Set Up Camps At Airports To Jab Aviation Personnel

The Centre on May 6 issued guidelines for the rapid vaccination of aviation personnel. The order sought to create vaccination camps at airports to jab aviation staff prioritizing Air Traffic Controllers (ATC), cockpit, cabin crew and passenger-facing staff. Reportedly, the decision came after the aviation ministry requested the state governments to consider the airport and flight staff under the priority list for vaccination program.
