Nine Exotic Wild Animals Rescued While Being Smuggled Into Assam From Mizoram

The Mizoram police in Vairengte, rescued nine exotic wild animals from smugglers, which they attempted to smuggle them from Mizoram to Assam, on August 24. Two persons identified as John Lalramnghaka (39) and Lalremruata (20) have been arrested by the police. Notably in May, Mizoram police rescued 468 smuggled exotic wild animals from the Champhai district bordering Myanmar, reported Hindustan Times.

Three Held For Smuggling Rhino Horn In Assam’s Gologhat

In Assam’s Gologhat, three persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in rhino horn smuggling. The accused have been arrested near the Kaziranga National park. According to the police, the accused chopped off the horn without killing the rhino. The search was initiated after the officials found a rhino with horns chopped. Following the arrest, an investigation is underway and further details are awaited.

Assam Govt Announces To Withdraw Over 1,00,000 Minor Cases To Ease Burden On Judiciary

The Assam government has announced to withdraw over 1,00,000 minor cases to reduce the burden on lower judiciary. The minor cases also those of criminal nature, and those filed over social media posts. Reportedly, around 4,50,000 cases are pending before the minor courts in Assam. This is done so that the judiciary can focus on bigger issues like rape, murder, etc.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Arrested For Demanding Bribe In Assam

Assam's Directorate of Vigilance and anti-corruption caught Assistant Sub-Inspector Sabin Pal Das red-handed for demanding bribe, on August 7. The arrested took place after a complaint was filed at Matia police station, alleging that Das demanded bribe for mitigating pending cases. When the complainant found himself unable to pay the bribe, he filed a complaint. Further details are awaited.

Assam CM Himanta Sarma Appears Before Court In Criminal Defamation Suit Filed Against Sisodia

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma appeared before a court in Kamrup, to file his initial deposition in a defamation case filed against Delhi's deputy CM Manish Sisodia. The criminal defamation case was filed after Sisodia alleged that Assam government had given contracts to Sarma's wife's firm, to supply PPE kits above market rates. Earlier in June, Sarma's wife Riniki filed a Rs 100 crore civil defamation case on the same.

Under-Construction Roof Collapses In Assam's Bongaigaon; 3 'Seriously Injured'

In Assam's Bongaigaon railway station, an under-construction roof collapsed on August 2, which left eight labourers injured. The incident caused serious injuries to three labourers, and have been admitted for treatment. The information created a shock wave among public, and further details on the matter is underway. Superintendent of Police (SP) Swapnaneel Deka stated, "of the eight injured, three in a serious condition".

Heroin, Crystal Meth Worth Rs 15 Crore Seized In Assam's Karbi Anglong

Officials of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Assam police, in a joint operation, seized narcotic drugs worth Rs 15 crore, in Assam's Karbi Anglong district, on August 2. The officials acting on a tip off, arrested three persons at a checkpoint. The accused, who were transporting the drugs in a Bolero, reportedly possessed one of the purest forms of heroin and other drugs.

Assam Rail Traffic Disrupted For Many Hours As Brahmaputra Mail Collides With Bull

The overhead equipment (OHE) on the Delhi-Howrah train line collapsed when 15658 Brahmaputra Mail collided with a bull on July 30. Rail traffic was interrupted for almost 10 hours. Following the event, all trains upline were halted, and a railway team restored the line from Prayagraj to the incident site. Brahmaputra Mail engine had also experienced some mechanical difficulties, although no one was injured as a result of the event.
