The Alappuzha bypass on NH 66 in Kerala finally got inaugurated on January 28, almost after four decades. CM Pinarayi Vijayan and Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari jointly inaugurated the bypass via video conferencing. While the foundation of the 6.8 km bypass was laid in early 1980s, its construction was started only in 2005 due to financial and land shortages. Kerala Set to Become The First to Offer MSP on Fruits and Vegetables
Kerala government plans to support the farmers growing fruits and vegetables with a minimum support price (MSP). To be applied from November 1 on Kerala’s foundation day, the scheme will offer an MSP of 20% over production cost for 16 crops. While MSP list would be revised from time-to-time, local-government bodies will procure on MSP, even if base-price falls below. Farmers with upto15 acres of cultivation will be benefitted under this.

Kerala: 23-year-old Man Allegedly Tortured For Hours By Two Cops
A 23-year-old man of Kerala's Malappuram district has filed a police complaint, wherein he alleged that two cops stripped him nearly naked and tortured him for hours on October 24. The complainant, MV Najmuddin, stated that he was told later by the police that a woman had filed a complaint against him. Reportedly, one of the cops accused, Anees, has been suspended after the preliminary enquiry in the case.

Kerala Gets 90 'Centres of Excellence'; 5 Lakh New Students Join Government School
Kerala Government has designated 90 schools as "Centres of Excellence". Reportedly, the initiative was aimed to promote public-education-systems and the schools which were funded by KIIFB, NABARD and other government plans. Kerala: Traffic System Modernised With 'e-Challan System'
Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan on September 22 inaugurated the 'e-Challan system' for collection of traffic fines, as a part of an initiative to modernise the functioning of Kerala Police. The Police opined that this will remove corruption and improve transparency. With this, traffic cameras record cases of violations and then pass it to the virtual courts through the 'e-challan system'. Also, fines can be paid using 'e-treasury system'.
