Former Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull Tests Positive For COVID-19
Former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull tested positive for COVID-19 on January 8, amid the COVID-19 cases are rising in the country. Turnbull confirmed his COVID-19 diagnosis on Twitter and said that his symptoms are moderate. However, health officials warned that the real number of cases is likely much higher than testing reports. Turnbull was the PM of the country from 2015 to 2018, reported PTI.

8,449 New COVID-19 Cases, 4 Deaths Reported In Karnataka
In Karnataka 8,449 new COVID-19 cases and four deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, informed the health department on January 7. The cumulative case tally with new cases in the state mounted to 30,31,052, of which 30,113 are active cases. So far, 38,362 people have died, and 29,62,548 recovered. Reportedly, the positivity rate stands at 4.15%.

93 Cops In Mumbai Test Positive For COVID-19
Atleast 93 policemen in Mumbai tested positive for COVID-19, in the past 24 hours, taking the overall tally of Covid positive policemen to 9,657 in the city. Meanwhile, Mumbai reported 20,181 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours, taking the positivity rate to 29.90%. The state reported 79 Omicron cases on January 7, taking the tally to 876, including 381 recoveries.

COVID-19: Mumbai May Cross '20,000' Single Day Cases
Member of Covid-19 task force Maharastra, Dr Shashank Joshi has said that Mumbai is expected to report more than 20,000 cases on January 6, and urged people to use masks, and go for medical-checkup, if symptomatic. Mumbai Mayor, earlier said that "lockdown would be imposed,if case count were to cross the 20,000-mark,as per rules." The taskforce however ruled out the possibility of lockdown in Mumbai, citing situation under control.

Students To Be Barred From School Without 1st COVID-19 Dose: Bangladesh
Without getting the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, Bangladesh students (12 to 17 years old) won't be allowed to return to school, Education Ministry clarified on January 6. The rule applies to the children, eligible for first COVID-19 dose. Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul-Islam said, adding seperate instructions are in place for college/university students. Islam further said that they are pushing people to get the vaccine doses.

Days After Twin Brother, French TV Star Igor Bogdanoff Dies Of Covid
Igor Bogdanoff, a french TV star died of Covid-19, six days after his twin brother, Grichka, who also died of Covid-19. The brothers' lawyer confirmed this news to CNN on January 4, who said that they are dead from Covid and were both at the same hospital. Both the brothers were celebrities in France, and were known for appearing in a viral cryptocurrency meme, outside France.

Australian Cricketer Glenn Maxwell Tests Positive For COVID-19
Australian cricketer and a well-known all-rounder Glen Maxwell has tested positive for COVID-19, as confirmed by his Big Bash League franchise Melbourne Stars on January 5. The captain of the Stars team took a rapid antigen test, following a match against rivals Melbourne Renegades, and that was declared positive for Covid. He's been sent into isolation. Reportedly, he is the thirteenth player from the team to test positive.

Over 1 Lakh People Hospitalized With Covid-19 In US: Data
According to a latest data from the US Department of Health and Human Services, more than one lakh people have been hospitalized with Covid-19, for the first time in nearly four months. The record of hospitalizations reached a high of more than 142,000 about a year ago, on January 14, 2021, and last topped 100,000 on September 11. The states are also reporting surges in the number of children hospitalized.

India Records 27,553 New COVID-19 Cases; Maharashtra Tops Omicron Tally
The Union Health Ministry said that India reported 27,553 new COVID-19 cases, 9,249 recoveries, and 284 deaths in the last 24 hours, on January 2. The total recovery of India stands at 3,42,84,561, active cases at 1,22,801, and deaths at 284 cases. India's Omicron tally has reached 1,525 cases, out of which 560 are reported to be recovered. Maharashtra with 460 cases is at the top of the tally.
