EC Orders Action Against Varanasi ADM Over Election Rules Violation

The Election Commission ordered action against ADM of Varanasi NK Singh over allegations of transferring EVM machines, ahead of UP 2022 Poll results. The orders came on March 9, a day after the SP President Akhilesh Yadav's allegations on Varanasi ADM for transferring EVMs, without informing locals. As per sources, the EC asked UP Chief Election Officer to take strict actions against Singh for violating rules.

EC Orders Re-Polling In 9 Manipur Assembly Seats

The Election Commission announced re-polling in 67 polling stations of nine assembly constituencies in Manipur on March 4. EC Announces Ease In Campaign, Allows Padyatra & Extra Hours

In a relief to political parties, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced relaxations. According to the issued notification on February 12, padayatras with a limited people are allowed. In addition, poll campaign hours have been extended for four hours, 6:00 am to 10: pm, from the previous 8:00 am to 10 pm. Notably, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur are set to contest Assembly elections.

Manipur Assembly Elections Postponed; EC Issues Revised Schedule

Election Commission of India on February 10, revised election dates for the two-phased Manipur Assembly election. According to the EC, the first phase of the polls has been postponed from February 27 to 28. The second phase polls has been postponed from March 3 to 5. The decision was taken after EC took inputs from stake holders, political leaders to understand the ground situation in the State.

Asaduddin Owaisi Alleges Gun Shot At His Vehicle: UP Assembly Elections

AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi, who is campaigning for Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, alleged gun shots. On February 3, Owaisi said he was on his way to Delhi from Meerut, when three-four unidentified people shot three to four bullets at his convoy. Taking a dig at the opposition, Asaduddin Owaisi asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) to order an inquiry in the matter, especially ahead of UP Assembly elections.

ECI Extends Rally Ban Till Jan 31 With Relaxations: COVID-19

Ahead of the assembly elections in five states, the Election Commission of India, on January 22, extended imposed ban on rallies. Notably the ban for public rallies and campaigns have been extended till January 31, with relaxations. After a high level meeting, EC approved door-to-door campaign with 10 people and public meetings from January 28 and February 1 ,for states conducting elections in first and second phases.

EC Postpones Punjab Assembly Elections To Feb 20

The Election Commission of India (ECI) postponed polling for the Punjab Assembly elections to February 20. Previously the elections were scheduled on February 14, but was rescheduled after a meeting, on January 17. Reportedly, Punjab ministers and political parties asked the ECI to postpone, in view of the Guru Ravidas Jayanti, on January 16. Now, the voting will be on February 20 and results to be announced on March 10.

Calcutta HC Directs EC To Postpone Civic Polls By 4-6 Weeks: COVID-19

In view of the COVID-19 surge, the Calcutta HC, on January 14, directed the Election Commission to postpone civic polls by 4-6 weeks. Hearing a petition, the HC asked the EC to delay the Siliguri, Chandernagore, Bidhannagar and Asansol municipal Corporations elections, scheduled to be held on January 22. The decision came at a time when, West Bengal reported over 20,000 COVID-19 cases with over 60% positivity rate.
