TN Congress Candidate PSW Madhava Rao Passes Away Due To COVID-19
Tamil Nadu Congress candidate PSW Madhava Rao, who contested from Srivilliputhur constituency in the recent assembly elections, died of COVID-19 complications on April 11. State Congress in-charge Sanjay Dutt paid condolences to Rao’s family. Since Rao died after the polling of the votes, the by-elections will take place if he is declared winner in the counting scheduled on May 2. The Tamil Nadu Assembly polls were held on April 6.

Jharkhand By-polls: No Impact Of COVID-19 On Total Voter Turnout
According to Jharkhand Chief Electoral officer, the total percentages in both Dumka and Bermo Constituencies have remained very close to the 2019 elections. The total voter turnout in Dumka was 65.27% while it was 60.20% in Bermo. Despite the pandemic and harvest season, the voters have shown active participation in the by-poll elections which was also appreciated by the poll officials and the political parties.

Allahabad High Court Questions EC on By-Elections For Suar Constituency
The Allahabad High Court has questioned the Election Commission for not holding elections for the Suar constituency. While stating that the EC has failed to perform its constitutional and statutory duty, the court said that the will of the people is supreme. Curbing Poll Rallies Would Upset Level Playing Field: EC Tells Supreme Court
Citing that cancellation of election rallies would upset the "level playing field" for candidates, the Election Commission (EC) has appealed to the Supreme Court against the MP High Court's order. The EC has further argued that conducting elections comes under its umbrella of responsibility. Earlier, owing to the pandemic, the High Court had asked candidates to refrain from physical political rallies in nine districts of the state.

Olympic Medallist Yogeshwar Dutt To Contest Baroda Bypoll As BJP Candidate
Olympic medallist and Padma Shri awardee Yogeshwar Dutt will be contesting the Haryana Assembly by-elections as a BJP candidate. Reportedly, the wrestler who had joined BJP in 2019, will be fielded from the Baroda constituency of Sonipat district in Haryana. Voting for the Baroda seat, which fell vacant due to the death of Congress MLA Shri Krishan Hooda, is scheduled to take place on November 3.
