India has restricted imports of laptops, tablets and personal computers with immediate effect, according to a government notice on August 3.  A notice issued in this regard read, "Their import would be allowed against a valid licence for restricted imports." The notice further read, "The said Restriction shall not be applicable to Imports under Baggage Rules, as amended from time to time."

The Indian National Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge took a dig at the BJP-led Central Government and PM Narendra Modi. On the second day of the Monsoon Parliament Session, the Congress President said, they expect an official elaborate statement by PM Narendra Modi over the horrific Manipur Sexual Assault Violence against two women. The party also proposed for a discussion over the issue and Manipur violence and protest for months.

PM Narendra Modi arrived in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on July 15.  During the one-day visit, PM Modi will hold bilateral talks and discuss India-UAE relations with Sheikh Nahyan. The visit came after the Prime Minister of India's France visit. The Union External Affairs Ministry confirmed Modi's arrival and discussion over several topics. After concluding the two nation visit, PM Narendra Modi will return on July 16.

The defence ministry approved the proposed procurement of 26 Naval variant of Rafale jets from France, people familiar with the development said. The project was cleared by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The DAC, which is the defence ministry's highest decision making body on procurement, also cleared a proposal for construction of three more Scorpene submarines in India.

The National Security Advisor (NSA) Advisor Ajit Doval denied claims of religion fear in India. On July 11, during an event Islamic Culture Centre in Delhi, Doval said, "India continues to play its role as a refuge for heterodox ideas with infinite capacity to absorb dissent. No religion is under any threat." He further added that India and the Indian government is having the world's largest democracies.
