Yogendra Yadav Resigns From SKM Coordination Committee, Takes Bigger Role

Yogendra Yadav submitted his resignation from the coordination committee of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM,) on September 5. The resignation was said to be in view of prioritising coordination between political parties and mass movement activities. "I should be relieved of the responsibility of Samyukt Kisan Morcha", said Yadav. Furthermore, Yadav suggested Avik Saha, Jai Kisan Andolan President as his replacement.

Farmers Call For Protest At Jantar Mantar, Police Beef Up Security

The Delhi police have tightened security at Jantar Mantar, Ghaziabad and Singhu border, amid farmers' protest. Notably, on August 22, farmers are scheduled to hold protests against unemployment, due to which, the Uttar Pradesh and Delhi Police have been on alert. The Samyukt Kisan Morcha has called for a 75-hour sit-in protest in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh against the Central government over pending demands, including unemployment.

Lakhimpur Kheri Case: SKM To Stage 75-Hour Sit-In Protest Against Centre

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has announced to stage a 75-hour sit-in protest against the centre in Lakhimpur Kheri case on August 18. SKM is an umbrella group comprising of 40 farm organisations. The protesting farmers are demanding for the proper implementation of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops. The farmers protests have witnessed a huge amount of violence since it began.

Agnipath Scheme: SKM Stages Protests At Various States In India, Demands Cancellation Of Scheme

Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) observed nation wide protests on June 24, against centre's Agnipath scheme. Protests were staged in Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal. The protestors termed the scheme as "anti-military" and "anti-farmers". They demanded the president of India to cancel the Agnipath scheme and restore the regular recruitment policies.

SKM Farmer Union Is Not Contesting Punjab Election: Rakesh Tikait

The Sanyukt Kisan Morcha leader Rakesh Tikait, on December 26, denied to contest any election. Addressing the media, the Farmer leader said, the SKM is not going to contest elections in Punjab and it's all rumour. When asked about the launch of Political front by Kisan Union, Rakesh Tikait said, they have no idea and will comment about it after a meeting, scheduled on January 15.

Samyukta Kisan Morcha Says Not Participating In 2022 Punjab Poll

Ahead of the upcoming Punjab election, two leaders of the nine-member coordination committee of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on December 25 announced that the Morcha won't contest the election. Furthermore, they said the Morcha was only made to resolve the farmers' issues related to the three agricultural laws. It has also been announced that disciplinary action will be taken if anyone uses the organisation's name in the poll.

Farmers To Hold Protests To Mark One Year Of Farmers' Movement

To mark the one year of the farmers' movement against the three farm laws, Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) is organising protests in various states, on November 26. At Delhi borders, thousands of farmers will reportedly come and protest. Farmers of states such as Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Bihar will join rallies planned by SKM. Notably, PM Narendra Modi already announced that the Centre will repeal the laws.

Farmers To Hold ''Rail Roko'' Programme: Lakhimpur Kheri Violence

The Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) spokesperson Rakesh Tikait has announced that Famers will block railways tracks for 6 hours starting from 10 AM in the country on October 18. Reportedly, the ''rail roko'' program was planned to protest against the Union Minster Ajay Mishra's membership in BJP. Farmers made him the accused of criminal conspiracy that led to the killing of fours farmers and a journalist in Lakhimpur Kheri.
