Tushar Mehta Writes To Home Secretary Over Security Lapses In Yasin Malik's Appearance in Court

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader Yasin Malik, who is undergoing life sentence in a terror funding case at Tihar Jail, appeared in the Supreme Court under police escort. Reacting to this, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta questioned the law & order and called a 'major security lapse'.  In a letter written to Home Secretary, Tushar asked for an investigation. Notably, Yasin appeared for TADA Case, filed by CBI.

SC Issues Notice To Complainant In Modi Defamation Case Against Rahul Gandhi

The Supreme Court issued a notice to the complainant Purnesh Modi, in the 2019 Modi Surname Defamation Case registered against Rahul Gandhi. Notably, on July 21, the Apex Court issued an order after reviewing the plea filed by Rahul Gandhi, the court also dismissed his plea, demanding stay on the conviction verdict of the Gujarat High Court, and adjourned the matter until next hearing.

SC Seeks ED, CBI Response In Delhi Excise Policy Scam Against Manish Sisodia

The Supreme Court, on July 14, reviewed the bail plea of Manish Sisodia, the former Delhi Deputy CM and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader in the Delhi Liquor Policy Scam. During the court hearing, the Top Court bench asked the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file a response in the case. Notably, the central agencies are investigating the scam case against Sisodia.

SC Cancels 3rd Extension To Sanjay Mishra As ED Chief, Calls Illegal

The Supreme Court on July 11, held as "illegal" two notifications by the Centre granting an extension of service, for one year each time, to Indian Revenue Service officer Sanjay Kumar Mishra as the chief of the Enforcement Directorate and cancelled extension for third time. However, the top court upheld the amendments made to the Central Vigilance Commission, allowing a maximum of five-year tenure to CBI and ED chiefs.

SC Extends Interim Bail To Ashish Mishra In Lakhimpur Violence

The Supreme Court extended the interim bail of Ashish Mishra, an accused in the 2021 Lakhimpur Violence. On July 11, the Top Court bench comprising Justices Suryakant and Dipankar Dutta extended the interim bail to September 26, citing the ongoing trial into the violence. The bench comprising granted the bail and adjourned the matter to September 26. Notably, in 2021, eight people, including four farmers were mowed down by Mishra.

SC Orders Day-To-Day Hearing Of Article 370

The Supreme Court ordered to conduct of day-to-day hearings of all the PILs, and pleas related to Article 370. In a major update, on July 11, the Apex Court bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud asked to begin everyday hearing into the Abolition of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir, from August 2. SC Issues Notice To Centre Amid Plea Challenging Ordinance

In a relief to the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Government, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Central Government.  On July 10, the Apex Court reviewed the plea against the ordinance passed seeking control of services by the Delhi Government.
