India Imposes Permanent Ban On 59 Chinese Apps Including TikTok

The Indian government has issued a notice to permanently ban 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, WeChat and UC Browser. Reportedly, the Centre has taken the decision after the Chinese companies failed to provide convincing explanations before the authorities. India had first imposed the ban in June 2020 citing that the apps were detrimental to "sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order."

TikTok Back In Pakistan After It Assures Removal Of "Obscenity, Immorality"

Pakistan on October 19 decided to lift a ban on the Chinese video-sharing app TikTok. The decision came following the assurance by the company that any account spreading "obscenity and immorality" would be blocked. Reportedly, the video-sharing app will now carry out moderation of the users' accounts as per the local laws. Pakistan Bans 'TikTok', Says Still Open To Review Decision 

According to reports, Pakistan has banned the Chinese app 'TikTok' on October 9 stating that the video-sharing app posted "immoral and indecent" content on its platform. The telecom regulator Pakistan Telecommunications Authority received complaints against the app and had earlier warned the authorities to comply by the norms. However, Pakistan has said that it is "open for engagement" to review the ban.

Chinese-owned video-sharing application TikTok is likely to stay in the US after securing a deal with Oracle and Walmart. The ban on the application has been postponed following the proposed deal that has President Trump's "blessings". Trump on September 19 said, "if they get it done, that’s great. If they don’t, that’s OK too." Meanwhile, TikTok, in its statement, said that it was "pleased" with the proposal.

YouTube Launches 'YouTube Shorts', with Features Similar to That of TikTok's

On September 14, Alphabet, parent company of Google Inc. launched YouTube Shorts - a replica of TikTok. It is a 15-second short video app, with features similar to TikTok. The app will be initially launched in India for android users and in due time will be released in other countries and to iOS platform. YouTube also joined hands with T-Series and Believe Digital for adding music in the app.

ByteDance Denies to Sell TikTok to Microsoft, Looks to Obtain Deal with Oracle

Microsoft, on September 13, announced that ByteDance declined to sell TikTok's US operations. The company said that it was a good-fit for TikTok and had planned to make significant changes adhering to National Security standards. Sources reported that ByteDance is now considering Oracle.
