Ladakhs' Only LPG Plant In India Operated Completely By Women

The only LPG plant in Ladakh which provides fuel to over 50,000 army troops is run by an all-women crew. Interestingly, the plant located near Leh delivers a major portion of 40% of its total refill to the Indian defence establishment. Moreover, the all-women crew having 12 members ensures all task from the production lines to managing the security. Notably, it is the only LPG unit in India which is operated completely by women.

Army To Induct Women Pilots In Flying Branch From Next Year

The Indian Army will begin inducting women as pilots under its aviation wing from next year. Announcing the decision, Chief of Army Staff Gen MM Narvane stated that he had issued instructions in this regard a month ago. He said that while the pilot course admitting women officers will start in July 2021, they will be commissioned after one-year training. The Army has started inducting women in military police from 2019.

Former Delhi High Court Judge Hima Kohli became the first woman chief justice of Telangana on January 7. In a historic move, India for the first time has employed a team of 100 women officials dedicated to National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Deployed at the River Ganga banks of UP’s Garh Mukteshwar town, the team is fully equipped and trained to provide disaster relief. While the provision allows only108 women rescuers in a 1000-membered battalion, the NDRF DG SN Pradhan said, "a mixed team will be more efficient in a disaster rescue".

Bank Accounts Operated By Women Increased Significantly: NFHS Survey

The fifth National Family Health Survey (NFHS) has concluded that the number of bank accounts operated by women has increased significantly. The figure has raised from 26.4% to 76.7% in Bihar, while in Karnataka it surged to 88.7% from 59.4%. Moreover, Assam and Gujarat rose by over 73% and 45% respectively. Besides, NFHS reported notable growth in the mobile phone user base and ownership of property among women.

422 Women Officers Make Way To Indian Army's Permanent Commission

Indian Army has considered 422 women candidates eligible for induction in permanent commission. However, 57 selected candidates have decided to opt-out of the commission. The candidates who were not recommended for the commission have been allowed to work up to 20 years and retire. Till now, Women were inducted in Army under short service commission. The permanent commission would provide them promotions and other powers.
