Decade-Old Human Remains Discovered In Coal Mine: New Zealand
More than a decade after one of the country's worst industrial catastrophes, human remains were discovered in a New Zealand coal mine on November 17. A series of explosions caused by methane gas swept through the Pike River mine on South Island in November 2010, killing 29 workers. Due to safety reasons, the mine was closed for years. After requests from the miners' families, investigators were granted access in 2019.
