The Uttar Pradesh teacher who was seen asking students to slap their Muslim classmate in a viral video today justified her action, saying it was a "minor issue". The incident has sparked a massive row over communal angle. Tripta Tyagi said, "There was pressure from the child's parents to be strict with him. I am handicapped, so I made some students slap him." The University Grants Commission (UGC) has reprimanded Jadavpur University for submitting a "generic" report on the alleged ragging and sexual harassment of a student leading to his death, according to sources. Noting that no proactive measures have been taken by the university to curb ragging on campus, the commission has told the university that it is not satisfied with the report.
