Kerala HC Orders Centre To Amend NCC Act For Transgender Enrollment

To ensure transgender participation in force, the Kerala High Court, on March 15, ordered the Centre to amend Section 6 of the National Cadet Corps Act (1948). NCC Chief States Current Rules Disallow Inclusion Of Transgenders

National Cadet Corps (NCC) head DG Lieutenant General Tarun Kumar Aich on January 8 stated that present clauses governed by the NCC Act of 1948 do not warrant the inclusion of transgenders. The NCC chief said the uniformed youth organisation would need "numbers" and other "dynamics" to incorporate the third gender. Meanwhile, Kerala High court heard a plea requesting the admission of transgenders in the NCC the same day.

Kerala Govt Challenges HC Order Over Number Of Sabarimala Devotees

The Kerala High Court's order to increase the number of devotees in Sabarimala Temple has been challenged by the state Chief Secretary in the Supreme court. The Kerala government in its petition stated that the increase will put a "great strain" on health officials and police amid the ongoing pandemic. Earlier, the high court on December 18 had raised the number of pilgrims allowed to 5,000 per day.

Kerala HC Questions State CBSE Association On Concessions To Students

Kerala High Court on October 1 questioned the Kerala CBSE School Management Association regarding the "concessions" it could offer to students owing to the pandemic. The court was hearing the petition filed by school management, which accused the parents of refusing to pay fees by taking undue advantage of the pandemic.
