Kerala HC Orders Centre To Amend NCC Act For Transgender Enrollment
To ensure transgender participation in force, the Kerala High Court, on March 15, ordered the Centre to amend Section 6 of the National Cadet Corps Act (1948). The act prevents transgenders from serving in the National Cadet Corps (NCC). The court observed that even transgenders are entitled to enroll in NCC following their self-perceived identity. Reportedly, the court was hearing a petition filed by 23-year-old Hina Haneefa who was denied participation in 2020.
