Tamil Nadu Govt Extends Lockdown By Another Week Till May 31

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on May 22 announced the extension of complete lockdown by one more week. Following the steep increase in the COVID-19 death rate, the government extended the lockdown ending on May 24. However, the new guideline will allow shops to open till 9 pm on May 23 to stock up essentials. Allowing banks, private offices, the new order mandated e-registration for inter-state medical travel.

Andhra Extends COVID Curfew Till May 31; Orders Financial Aid To Orphans

CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led Andhra government on May 17 extended the curfew till May 31 citing the massive surge in COVID-19 cases in the state. CM Jagan said the decision was taken as it takes four week lockdown to break the COVID transmission chain. Moreover, directing the officials to monitor children orphaned due to COVID-19, he asked to prepare an action plan and provide financial assistance to them.

Delhi Government Extends COVID-19 Lockdown Till May 10

The Delhi government on May 1 has decided to extend the lockdown for one more week. With this, all the restrictions imposed by earlier orders will remain in force till May 10. However, essential activities will remain operative during the period. Besides, with a valid e-pass for movement, self-employed people can also travel during this lockdown period. Delhi is currently facing shortages of oxygen, hospital beds and COVID-19 vaccines.

Shah Meets Kejriwal, Offers Centre's Help To Fight COVID-19 Surge In Delhi

To tackle surging COVID-19 cases in the capital, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on November 15 met Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. After the meeting, Kejriwal said the Union government has assured to conduct 1-1.25 lakh tests per day and to provide 750 ICU beds at DRDO Centre. Shah tweeted that the government would double the RT-PCR tests as well as deploy paramedical crew from CAPF. Shah also stated about protocol for plasma donation.

Covid-19 Impact: 174M People to Lose Jobs in Tourism Industry

According to World Travel and Tourism Council, 174 million people will lose jobs in travel-tourism industry, as a post-pandemic effect. Despite global relaxation on restrictions, quarantine conditions by many countries are still hampering tourists. However, the projected figures are lower than expected due to recovery made by domestic travels. The Council also fears the contribution of industry to GDP would be reduced by 53%.

Maharashtra To Keep Existing Lockdown Measures Intact Till November 30

Owing to the rise in COVID-19 cases in the state, the Maharashtra government on October 29 decided to keep the existing lockdown measures intact till November 30. However, the government has earlier this month permitted hotels and bars to operate at 50% capacity. It also requested zonal railways to resume a limited number of suburban trains. Maharashtra is the worst affected state with over 130,286 active cases and at least 43,554 deaths.
