From the commencement of the next academic year, roughly 50 institutions across the country will offer four-year Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP), which is intended to be the minimum degree qualification for school teachers under National Education Policy, 2020. Following the announcement of the National Education Policy 2020, Karnataka becomes the first state in India to issue an order to implement the NEP 2020 on August 7, claims the state's Higher Education Minister C.N. Ashwath Narayan. The policy will come into effect from the current academic year 2021-22. Meanwhile, the Karnataka government has decided to reopen educational institutions in a phased manner amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Serving for over two and half years, the UGC vice-chairman Bhushan Patwardhan resigned on February 6. Reportedly, Patwardhan stepped down eight months ahead of his term citing personal reasons. Besides, he wanted to continue his research on Ayurveda. Bhushan was instrumental in framing the National Education Policy and headed a task force created under Ayush Ministry. Before joining UGC, he was researcher and professor of health sciences.

President Ramnath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the virtual inaugural session for the new National Education Policy (NEP) organized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India on September 7 at 10.30 am. It will be a Governors' conference titled "Role of NEP-2020 in Transforming Higher Education." The conference will be attended by the Education Ministers of all states and other University officials.
